Bianca Castro to moderate Woodward/Bernstein at DFWHC’s Oct. 8 Luncheon

08/22/2019

Bianca Castro, the news anchor and healthcare reporter for NBC 5, will moderate the discussion between Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein during the DFW Hospital Council’s (DFWHC) 71st Annual Awards Luncheon on October 8 at the Irving Convention Center (new location).

Woodward and Bernstein received the Pulitzer Prize as reporters for The Washington Post when they broke the Watergate scandal in 1972. They will field questions from Castro while discussing the 45th anniversary of Watergate, their bestselling book “All the President’s Men” and how it pertains to today’s political climate.

Castro joined the NBC 5 team in 2014, arriving by way of Orlando, Fla., where she spent three years as an anchor and reporter at WFTV, the ABC affiliate. She started her career in Waco, where she reported on a vast range of stories, from President George W. Bush’s visits to his Crawford ranch to issues facing our troops at Fort Hood in Killeen. After several years, she moved to the Texas coast, where she was the primary evening anchor for KRIS in Corpus Christi. She covered multiple hurricanes that hit the coast during her four years there.

After graduating from Plano Senior High School, she headed south to Baylor University and is a proud alumna. Today, she and her husband, who’s from Colleyville, have three children and a Maltese.

“We thought Bianca Castro would be a great fit for this discussion at our October 8 luncheon, “said W. Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC. “We have followed her healthcare stories on NBC for a number of years and appreciate her earnest and dedicated reporting. She is also home-grown talent of North Texas, having grown up in Plano and graduating from college in Texas. We are looking forward to her presentation.”

For over 70 years, the DFWHC Annual Awards Luncheon has been a unique opportunity for the hospitals of North Texas to honor friends of healthcare. Award recipients will include Andy Stern of Medical City Healthcare with the Distinguished Health Service Award; Kyle Armstrong of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney as the Young Healthcare Executive of the Year; and Bob Ferguson of Texas Health Resources as the Kerney Laday, Sr. Trustee of the Year.
