The history of the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) was detailed in a feature story in the April issue of D Magazine. Penned by Will Maddox, the article detailed the original beginnings of DFWHC.
“In 1947, a handful of hospital presidents met for lunch at Vincent’s Seafood Restaurant,” the story noted. “They gathered to discuss how the entities could work together to address community-wide health issues and continue to grow the city’s healthcare industry. The meetings continued through 1968 when the Dallas Hospital Council was officially formed. Today, the DFW Hospital Council includes 90 medical centers across 17 regional counties.”
The article detailed how Boone Powell, Sr., the Baylor Hospital president, was an attendee at that first lunch. Powell would be the inaugural second chair of the Dallas Hospital Council.
“In talking to people who had been involved in the hospital council, they said Boone’s vision of collaboration was one of the reasons the meetings began,” DFWHC President/CEO Stephen Love said.
