In a post yesterday on D Magazine’s website, Will Maddox reported on the reasons for the “Shelter-in-Place” order in Dallas County while speaking with DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) President/CEO Stephen Love.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins on Sunday issued an order requiring county residents to “Shelter in Place.”
The order took effect at 11:59 p.m. on March 23 and will continue until April 3, with the likelihood of being extended.
Love joined local mayors and hospital systems in signing onto a letter to Governor Abbott’s office to advocate for a statewide shelter-in-place order. While Dallas County was the first in the state to issue the order, Abbott has left the shelter-in-place decision up to the counties.
“This is a step in the right direction, as far as helping to flatten the curve,” Love said about the Dallas County order. “But it probably would be best if we could do it statewide, and not just municipality by municipality.”
