With the announcement Derreck Kayongo would be guest speaker of the 20th Annual Employee of the Year Luncheon on April 27, the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation soon began preparing for an event expected to inspire hospital employees from across North Texas.

“We were thrilled to learn he was available for the luncheon,” said Kristin Jenkins, president of the DFWHC Foundation. “This event is a salute to the North Texas hospital workforce. The luncheon’s goal is to inspire great hospital employees from all departments. Mr. Kayongo’s story will go a long way in helping us to achieve that goal.”

A world-famous business visionary, Kayongo is the founder of the Global Soap Project. The program takes donated, melted, purified and reprocessed hotel soap and redistributes it to vulnerable populations around the world. The enterprise recently expanded in to Hong Kong. Today, the Global Soap Project is active in more than 5,500 hotels in 32 countries and has given away more than two million bars of soap to refugees.

Kayongo fled civil war in Uganda and settled in the U.S. when he was just ten years old. Today he serves as the CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights and is a renowned expert in environmental sustainability and global health. Kayongo’s appearance will be in support of the luncheon’s theme “Do Great Things!” You can see a CNN video on his humanitarian efforts here.

More than 100 nominees will be introduced at the April 27 luncheon in the main ballroom at Irving Convention Center. Recipients will be asked to come to the stage to receive their awards. Deadline for nominations is Thursday, March 31. Sponsorships and tickets are still available.
