DFWHC raises serious concerns about Graham-Cassidy bill

09/19/2017

In a blog posted yesterday in State of Reform, DFW Hospital Council President/CEO W. Stephen Love expressed concern about the Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson bill introduced last week. The bill is the latest attempt by Republicans in Congress to pass health care legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, widely known as “Obamacare.”

Republicans have on at least four occasions tried and failed to repeal Obamacare in 2017, creating low expectations for this latest effort led by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina and Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Louisiana. According to Graham, the bill is the best and only chance to repeal Obamacare because everything else has failed.

“Unfortunately, this is shaping up to be a very serious vote,” Love said. “Hopefully, we can get the word out to key legislative leaders.”

According to Love’s blog, if the bill is passes the week of September 25, it would result in millions of residents losing health coverage, the erosion of key protections for patients and create a massive disruption in the health care system.
