A look back: Employee of the Year Luncheons #13 and #14

In celebration of the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation’s 20th Annual Employee of the Year Luncheon on April 27 at the Irving Convention Center, we are counting down with detail on previous events. You can register for the event here. For prior articles, see below.

The 13th Annual Employee of the Year Luncheon, themed “Lone Star Heroes,” was held April 30, 2009 at the Arlington Convention Center. Texas First Lady Anita Perry, a former nurse before husband Rick Perry was elected Texas Governor, served as keynote speaker.

Award recipients included:
• Rex McRae Scholarship – Chaney Elizabeth Oberzan, Texas Christian University

• Community Service – David Bridges, Paramedic, HCA’s Denton Regional Medical Center

• Special Recognition – Delbretta Hairston, Clinical Care Coordinator, UT Southwestern; Jackie Yeap, Registered Nurse, HCA’s Medical Center of Plano; Bethel Taft, Patient Care Technician, Texas Health Specialty Hospital; Deidre Lackey, CT Tech, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle; Diana Early, Physical Therapist, Our Children’s House at Baylor

• Employees of the Year – James Cooper, Access Services, Baylor All Saints Medical Center Fort Worth; Juan Carreon, Cook, HCA’s Medical Center of McKinney; Julia Blackburn, Clinical Lab Specialist, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB; Julia Bell, Patient Care Assistant, Baylor Medical Center at Irving; Robin Jacks, Coordinator Concierge Services, Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano; Dennis Mink, Cardiac Rehab, Tenet’s Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake; Marco Bartoloni, Registered Nurse, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.

The 14th Annual Luncheon was held April 29, 2010 at the Arlington Convention Center. Bernie Salazar, a winner on the television program “The Biggest Loser,” served as guest speaker in support of the theme “Health, Wellness and Life.” This was also the inaugural presentation of the Hospital System and Physician of the Year awards.

• Rex McRae Scholarship – Carl Towns, UT Arlington College of Nursing

• Physician of the Year – Dr. Elizabeth Fagan, Methodist Richardson Medical Center

• Hospital System Award – Jane Fuller, Office Manager, Baylor Health Care System

• Community Service – Tammy Rhodes, CDM Coordinator, HCA’s Las Colinas Medical Center

• Special Recognition – Mike Watkins, General Maintenance, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle; Stacey Jantzen, Registered Nurse, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center; Jody Spangler, Security, Cook Children’s Health Care System; Andrew Lee, Physical Therapist, HCA’s Medical City Dallas Hospital

• Employees of the Year – Leigh Ann Ward, Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital; Shelly Krueger, Senior HR Generalist, HCA’s Medical Center of Lewisville; Kristin Mack, Registered Nurse, HCA’s Medical Center of Plano; Sheree Bennett, Registered Nurse, Baylor All Saints Medical Center Fort Worth.

On Wednesday, April 27, the Employee of the Year Luncheon will honor more than 140 nominees and present 14 separate awards. The luncheon has evolved into a celebration for one of the most valuable resources in North Texas – great hospital employees.
