Webinar on June 25 to detail COVID-19 coding challenges

06/23/2020

The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) will be co-hosting a webinar with HCCS HIM Services on June 25 to detail “COVID-19 Coding Challenges and Opportunities” from 10:00 a.m. To 11:00 a.m. CDT.

One of the many disruptions wrought by COVID-19 on hospital finances are coding, documentation and compliance changes. Two such changes are appropriate telehealth coding and revenue recovery resulting from Medicare’s waiver of cost sharing for COVID-19 testing.

One of the early regulatory changes stemming from COVID-19 was the loosening of restrictions on Medicare payment for telehealth services. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has new authority to waive geographic and location requirements for telehealth reimbursement while the declared national public health emergency is in effect. The list of approved telehealth services is also expanded as is the list of health care professionals eligible to bill Medicare for telehealth services.

HCCS works with hospitals to ensure coding integrity and compliance with changing rules and requirements governing telehealth, Medicare cost sharing and other policies.
