Steve Love’s appearance noted at Denton health forum

Participating in a panel discussion at the “Healthcare 101” session Feb. 28 at the Emily Fowler Central Library in Denton, Steve Love’s comments were highlighted in an article in the Denton Record-Chronicle. Love, president and chief executive officer of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, commenting on health care reform was quoted, “The hope is that as more Americans gain insurance and medical providers focus more on preventive care. It will produce healthier patients and lower costs in the long run. But actuarially, I’ve never seen a report to substantiate that.”

Hosted by the Denton Black and Hispanic chambers of commerce, the event also included Dr. Robert Schwab, chief quality officer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton and Bill Trees of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

The event was attended by 60 people hoping to learn more about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Love recently passed by Congress. The government estimates the law will insure roughly 32 million people who previously lacked insurance, mostly by expanding Medicaid, creating new state-run “exchanges” where private insurers will compete for customers, and offering government tax credits and subsidies to offset costs.

The second session is planned for sometime in May. The article can be found at the newspaper’s website at http://www.dentonrc.com/local-news/local-news-headlines/20120229-experts-weigh-laws-implications-at-health-care-forum.ece.
