The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation announced this week it was postponing its “North Texas COVID-19 Heroes” campaign to the second week of September. The official booklet and video were originally scheduled to drop September 1.
“We are thrilled by the number of submissions,” said Sally Williams, Workforce Center Director at the DFWHC Foundation. “We received more than 350 submissions from hospitals across North Texas and we plan to honor every one of them. But the massive response, while welcome, was more than expected. We are working diligently behind the scenes to make sure this project is the best it can possibly be.”
The DFWHC Foundation announced in June it would postpone the 2021 Employee of the Year Luncheon to next year and replace the event with its virtual “North Texas COVID-19 Heroes” campaign. For the past year, hospitals have been submitting individuals and teams who displayed uncommon dedication during the pandemic.
“The efforts of our hospital employees during the COVID-19 pandemic have been amazing,” said Jen Miff, president of the DFWHC Foundation. “With our healthcare heroes continuing to work tirelessly during these difficult months, we are looking forward to honoring their extraordinary work. The book and video are the least we can do to offer our thanks.”
The booklet is expected to be 140-plus pages detailing more than 350 hospital employees from 44 North Texas hospitals. Each employee’s accomplishments will be detailed.
One such detail included: “Working in her hospital’s COVID-19 unit, Klava noticed a patient who could only speak Russian. Nervous and confused, he stared into the faces of nurses adorned in masks. A Russian native, Klava spoke to him in his language and the elderly man was immediately relieved. She communicated to him his condition. It was his first time to ever be in a hospital. He would eventually pass away, but not before Klava communicated to his daughters how much he loved them.”
