In a story posted today by Katie Leslie of The Dallas Morning News, DFW Hospital Council President/CEO W. Stephen Love scoffed at the Upton Amendment as the GOP makes a final attempt to secure votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Titled “Déjà vu all over again,” the story details Republican House leaders’ attempts to revamp legislation through an amendment provided by Michigan Rep. Fred Upton that would set aside $8 billion for five years to help people with pre-existing conditions pay for increases in health care costs under the GOP’s plan.
“It does nothing to address the initial projections that the American Health Care Act will lead to millions of Americans losing or giving up coverage because of expected rising health care premiums,” Love said.
“While $8 billion may sound like a lot of money, it’s not likely to go very far,” said Cynthia Cox of the Kaiser Family Foundation.
