Love’s editorial posted Feb. 11, 2014 and titled “A Texas Solution,” proposed a bipartisan, cooperative approach to implement a solution similar to the Affordable Care Act that would assist more than 1 million state residents. His comments were provided as a contrast to Gov. Rick Perry’s opposition to the act.

“If you could take a moment, imagine one million residents without access to healthcare,” Love wrote. “Do you really believe they would be the only ones suffering? Friends, families, physicians, hospitals, and other providers would be forced to carry this massive burden.”

The new Gallup-Healthways poll reports that the uninsured rate in states that have expanded Medicaid declined more than those that haven’t. The top-10 states with the highest reduction in uninsured rates approved Medicaid expansion and established their own marketplace. Texas is one of the 21 states that have declined to move forward with expansion. The state currently has the highest uninsured rate in the country, at 24.6 percent. In 2013, its rate was 27 percent.

Tenet CEO Trevor Fetter was also quoted in the story penned by Matt Goodman. You can find the article here.
