President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday that calls for upfront disclosure by hospitals of actual prices for common tests and procedures to keep costs down.
The idea is to give patients practical information they can use to help save money. The order, directed to the Department of Health and Human Services, made national headlines.
DFW Hospital Council President/CEO W. Stephen Love discussed the details this week in an interview with Mitch Carr on KRLD 1080 AM Radio.
“Hospitals all agree that we support transparency,” Love said. “We want patients out of the middle. We don’t want them to be surprised with bills when they need to be protected.”
Trump’s order also requires that patients be told ahead of time what their out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and copays will be for many procedures.
