It’s a crowded house today for the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation’s 10th Annual Patient Safety Summit at the Marriott Las Colinas in Irving. More than 300 attendees are presently listening to the discussion from an Ebola Panel to include Dr. Abdulsalami Nasidi, Executive Director of the Regional Centre for Disease Control of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Sam Bagchi of CHRISTUS Health and Dr. Daniel Varga of Texas Health Resources.

This is the first-ever appearance in Dallas for Dr. Nasidi, the former director of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, who worked on the front lines during the recent Ebola outbreak in Africa. He is participating in the Summit to discuss lessons learned from his experiences. NBCDFW TV was on hand to interview Dr. Nasidi and to view a demonstration of the new “Super Scrub” uniforms being promoted by Vestagen, a new partner of DFWHC.

This year’s Summit is being held in coordination with the Texas Department of State Health Services’ 2017 TDSHS Healthcare Safety Conference.

The Summit will continue today with “Ebola Preparedness Efforts and the Role of the Designated Infection Control Officer,” with speakers Thi Dang, an HAI Epidemiologist, Keri Cain, a State Hospital Preparedness Program Coordinator and Joseph Schmider, a State EMS Director. The session will be followed by a reception from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

The Summit’s second day will open tomorrow with Britt Berrett, author of “Patients Come Second,” followed by Leah Binder, president/CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
