Second Annual Sepsis Challenge 5K

Chris Wilson / September 14, 2019 @ 9:00 am / Events

The Second Annual Dallas Fort Worth Sepsis Challenge, a community 5K run and walk, is set for September 14, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Trinity Park in Fort Worth. The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation is serving as one of the event sponsors.

Hosted by the Sepsis Alliance, the event will officially kick off Sepsis Awareness Month throughout September. The purpose of the challenge is to raise sepsis awareness and funds for education programs.

In 2018, Sepsis Alliance was able to provide sepsis information to over 2.5 million sepsis.org visitors, launch the Sepsis Coordinator Network, create a national education module for first-responders, and drive sepsis awareness up to a new high of 65 percent.

“This is an enjoyable event and a great way to not only exercise outdoors with your friends, but bring attention to this crucial patient safety issue,” said Patti Taylor, the director of quality and patient safety at the DFWHC Foundation. “Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage and organ failure. We have been working for several years now at the DFWHC Foundation to raise awareness on this issue and to decrease North Texas occurrences. This 5K run and walk is a creative opportunity to continue an important cause.”
