Derreck Kayongo fled civil war in Uganda and settled in the U.S. when he was just ten years old. Now a successful entrepreneur, Kayongo is a renowned expert in global health. Kayongo is the founder of the Global Soap Project, a program which takes donated, melted, purified and reprocessed hotel soap and redistributes it to vulnerable populations around the world.

Today, Kayongo is the CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights capitalizing on the leadership experience he has developed over the last 20 years working for such Noble Peace Prizing-winning organizations as Amnesty International.

The Global Soap Project is active in 32 countries and has given away more than two million bars of soap to refugees, including people affected by humanitarian disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis. Currently, more than 5,000 hotels are members of the Global Soap Project recycling program in the U.S. Kayongo was honored as one of CNN’s Top Ten Heroes in 2011.
