January marks National Blood Donor Month, recognizing those who regularly donate to save lives and encouraging first-time donors to give.
The demand is great: Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a transfusion.
Blood transfusions are used in one out of every 83 U.S. newborn deliveries, while 25% of all blood donations support patients undergoing cancer treatments.
Surprisingly, given this high demand, only 3% of Americans donate blood, though 62% are eligible. In other words, the entire U.S. blood supply is provided by only 3% of our citizens.
This is a troubling statistic, but there is a solution. Every eligible Texan has it within themselves to donate toward a reliable, readily available blood supply.
As North Texans look for ways to make a positive, life-changing difference in 2023, donating blood is a prime opportunity. It is a realistic resolution that’s healthy, easy to keep, and beneficial to neighbors in need.
Carter BloodCare ensures each experience – from registration and health screening to the donation itself and post-donation refreshments – takes less than 60 minutes. It is time well-spent for patients requiring urgent and critical care throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
