Following the July 7 Dallas tragedy when five police officers were killed and numerous victims were dispatched to local hospitals, a discussion emerged on color-coded emergency warning systems frequently used to alert hospital staffers, according to The Dallas Morning News story posted today.

The article, penned by new healthcare reporter Sabriya Rice, quoted DFW Hospital Council President/CEO W. Stephen Love.

“One benefit of the more encrypted color coding system is that it minimizes alarm,” he said. “You don’t want to just come over the overhead and yell there’s a bomb.”
