IRVING, TX – The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) announced today the 2024 recipients of its Young Healthcare Executive of the Year and Kerney Laday, Sr. Trustee of the Year awards. Ryan Gebhart, senior vice president of Baylor Scott & White Health and president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Centennial, has been named this year’s Young Healthcare honoree while Ron Carter of Baylor Scott & White Health and Randall Canedy of Methodist Health System will be the Kerney Laday, Sr. awardees.
The awards will be presented during DFWHC’s 76th Annual Awards Luncheon on October 18 at the Loews Arlington Convention Center. The reception begins at 11:00 a.m., followed by the luncheon and awards from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
The Young Healthcare Executive of the Year Award honors youthful professionals who display the impressive abilities of future North Texas leaders. Nominees must be 40 years of age or younger and employed by a DFWHC-member hospital. This year’s recipient Gebhart has worked with Baylor Scott & White Health for more than 10 years. A president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Centennial since 2019, he has overseen all hospital operations and community relationships for the 118-bed facility. As senior vice president at the corporate level, Gebhart has led the development of the system’s new Frisco medical center. The 37-acre campus project is one of the largest capital investments in Baylor Scott & White’s history.
The Trustee of the Year honor was named in memory of Kerney Laday, Sr., who served on the Texas Health Resources Board for a decade. The award was created in 2013 to honor trustees who have displayed excellence throughout their careers. Carter recently concluded two decades of board service for Baylor Scott & White (BSW) Health. He joined the board of BSW Medical Center – Grapevine in 2004, then went on to serve on the board of BSW Medical Center – McKinney, the BSW North Texas Operating, Policy and Procedure Board, and the Baylor Health Care System Board. During his seven-year term as chairman of the BSW Holdings Board Audit and Compliance Committee, he was responsible for creating and implementing controls that ensured BSW’s long-term stability and ability to invest in new facilities, technology, research, education and community outreach.
Canedy has served Methodist Health System for 20 years, serving as Methodist Mansfield Advisory Board Chair and as chair of the Methodist Health System Board of Directors. He played a crucial role in advocating for new laws that protect hospital workers from assault, collaborating with state legislators and writing letters to secure these protections. Having served as president of Frost Bank, Mansfield Financial Center for 31 years, Canedy’s financial experience has been crucial in contributing to Methodist Health System’s strong operating revenue of over $2 billion. He was also an advocate for the board approval of a new hospital in Celina, a $237 million investment to ensure healthcare access in northern Collin County.
“With these awards, we are proud to acknowledge the extraordinary leadership of Ryan Gebhart, Ron Carter and Randall Canedy, who have dedicated their careers to our community’s health and well-being,” said Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC. “We are looking forward to recognizing their significant contributions.”
During the Annual Awards Luncheon, DFWHC will also present its Distinguished Health Service Award. An additional highlight will be the appearance of Shannon Miller as keynote speaker. The famous Olympic gymnast won seven medals during her career. She is also a cancer survivor and will discuss her “Gold Medal Mindset” for creating awareness and survivorship.
The awards luncheon will be sponsored in part by Hall Render and Forvis Mazars. For information, please contact Chris Wilson at chrisw@dfwhc.org.
