DFWHC and East Texas A&M webinar “AI’s Impact on Healthcare” has been posted online

09/04/2025

The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) and East Texas A&M University webinar “Promises, Pitfalls and Pressures: AI’s Impact on Healthcare and Public Health” originally broadcast on September 3 has been posted online.

Speakers included Dr. Elizabeth Wachira, an Associate Professor and Director of the Public Health Program at East Texas A&M University; and Stephen Love, President/CEO of DFWHC.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly entering the healthcare space, shaping how hospitals predict patient needs, manage staffing and even capture social determinants of health. But there are pitfalls. AI models trained on biased data can reinforce inequities, clinicians risk over-reliance on automated tools, and safety-net hospitals may be left behind. This webinar explored the pitfalls and pressures of AI using real-world examples from recent research and current events. Speakers also discussed why preparing leaders through interdisciplinary programs is critical to ensure these tools advance equity, reduce costs and build healthier communities.
