DFWHC and DFW HIMSS to co-host “Opioid Crisis” webinar on Oct. 10

09/18/2018

With communities and lawmakers alike responding to increased public pressure to find solutions to a deadly opioid crisis affecting every state in the U.S., the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) has partnered with the DFW Chapter of The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to co-host the October 10 webinar “Antidote to the Opioid Crisis is Rooted in Data.”

The complimentary webinar, from 1:00-2:15 p.m., will include both the local and national perspectives from speakers Dr. Michael Petersen, physician executive with Accenture, and W. Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC.

Topics will include North Texas statistics, data solutions and future goals.

“According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, overdose deaths killed an estimated 72,000 Americans in 2017,” said Love. “In comparison, over 40,000 Americans died that same year in car accidents, while 12,000 died from gun violence. Those are frightening numbers that will be confronted during this webinar.”

Dr. Petersen is a physician executive with Accenture’s Health Management Delivery Operations Team. He serves as the lead on Epidemic Solutions and Health Innovation assisting clients in solving complex issues using data analytics combined with the necessity of creating solutions from visualized data. His knowledge on social determinants of health help build an ecosystem of partners and technologies to develop community solutions to drive improved outcomes.
