Captain Chad Fleming, a member of the U.S. Army’s elite 75th Ranger Regiment, has been chosen to serve as this year’s keynote speaker at the DFW Hospital Council Foundation’s 19th Annual Employee of the Year Luncheon. The event will take place Friday, May 1 at the Irving Convention Center.
A hero in his own right, Captain Fleming was chosen in support of this year’s luncheon theme “Healthcare Heroes.” Fleming was deployed six times overseas and wounded in combat three times. He has undergone two-dozen surgeries from his injuries, one of which resulted in the amputation of his left leg. While most would assume this would conclude his military service, Captain Fleming has been re-deployed five times since.
After serving with distinction and receiving two Bronze Star medals with Valor and three Purple Hearts, he retired from active duty. Today, he competes in marathons, triathlons and cycling events across the United States. Captain Fleming’s message is inspired by his uncommon resilience, perseverance and a “Never Quit” attitude.
He served as an inspiration to the 2010 U.S. Olympic Hockey team and has spoken to both college and professional sports teams. Like the “Healthcare Heroes” to be honored May 1, Captain Fleming is a true American hero.
