Carole Young to receive Kerney Laday, Sr. Trustee Award

09/03/2014

IRVING, TX – The Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council (DFWHC) has announced Carole Young, board member of HCA’s Medical City Dallas Hospital, as the 2014 Kerney Laday, Sr. Trustee of the Year, an award presented to a North Texas hospital board member who has exhibited exceptional quality and compassion. Young will be honored during DFWHC’s Annual Awards Luncheon, October 21 at Arlington Convention Center.

The award was named in memory of Kerney Laday, Sr., who served on the Texas Health Resources Board of Trustees for 10 years. He was chair of the board when he passed away in 2012. The inaugural award was presented to his family last year.

Young has been a member of the Medical City Dallas Board since 1998, serving as chair from 2007-2014. An independent business writer, she was appointed to a six-year term on the Board of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice by Texas Governor George W. Bush. Young also serves on the developmental board of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, on the Executive Committee of the Chancellor’s Council of The University of Texas System, and as a member of The Presidents’ Circle of The National Academies.

“Carole Young is a great example of why the Kerney Laday Sr. Award was created,” said W. Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC. “Like Mr. Laday, Mrs. Young has exhibited exceptional qualities during her years of service. Her lifetime of dedication has provided valuable skills and insight to North Texas healthcare.”

In addition to honoring Mrs. Young, DFWHC will present the Distinguished Health Service Award to Dr. Wright Lassiter, former chancellor to the Dallas County Community College District; and the Young Healthcare Executive of the Year Award to Becky Tucker, vice president of Integrated Health Campuses at Texas Health Resources. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham will serve as keynote speaker. Jason Castro, American Idol finalist, will perform the National Anthem.

The event is sponsored in part by CampbellWilson, LLP and GroupOne Services. For information, please contact Kristin Alexander or Chris Wilson at 972-719-4900.

DFWHC is an 88 hospital and 95 associate member trade organization with more than 45 years of service to North Texas healthcare. Governed by a Board of Trustees made up of hospital executive officers, the hospital trade association is committed to the continuous improvement of patient care.
