American author and historian John M. Barry was interviewed this week as guest of the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) and KRLD 1080 AM radio program “The Human Side of Health Care.” Barry’s book “The Great Influenza: The Story of the Greatest Pandemic in History” was an influential 2005 bestseller detailing the 1918 outbreak of the Spanish Flu, an unusually deadly pandemic lasting for over two years and infecting 500 million people. The death toll has been estimated to have been between 17-50 million people.

“Barry is an expert on one of the deadliest pandemics in world history,” said Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC. “We thought his observations on the contrast between that outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic today would be informative and authoritative. He provided a fascinating perspective on the struggles in the U.S. related to COVID-19.”

Barry’s interview will highlight episode 29 of DFWHC’s weekly radio program to be broadcast Sunday on KRLD 1080 AM from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. CDT and repeated from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
