Love discusses new FDA smoking policies on KRLD

DFW Hospital Council President/CEO W. Stephen Love discussed the latest updates on potential U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) policies concerning e-cigarettes during an interview last week with Mitch Carr on KRLD 1080 AM Radio.

A new FDA policy drafted earlier this week could get flavored e-cigarette oils pulled off the shelf. The policy is aimed at preventing e-cigarette products from getting into the hands of children, a growing problem across the U.S.

“To put an age restriction on the flavored smoking products is the right thing to do,” Love said. “There’s been tremendous growth with high schoolers using vapor products.”

Love also commented on the Texas bill that could potentially raise the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21.

“Studies show 95 percent of smokers begin before the age of 21,” said Love. “Over 28,000 Texans die every year from tobacco products. We just grounded the 737 jet because of two crashes. Can you imagine if 28,000 Texans were killed in plane crashes every year?”
