David Hitt (1925 – 2015)

12/04/2015

It was with great sadness the DFW Hospital Council learned of the passing of David Hitt on November 24, 2015 at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Mr. Hitt was a long-time supporter of the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC), serving as Chair of its Board of Trustees in 1959. He was also a recipient of DFWHC’s Boone Powell, Sr. Award of Excellence in 1989. To date, he is one of only 13 men to have ever received the award which honors hospital CEO’s who have made an historic impact on North Texas healthcare.

Mr. Hitt moved to Dallas in 1952 to join Baylor Medical Center’s top management staff and remained there for 27 years as chief operating officer and then five years as chief executive officer. In 1984, he became president and chief executive officer of Methodist Hospitals of Dallas where he served for 13 years until retiring in 1996.

A memorial service for Mr. Hitt has been scheduled for Saturday, December 23 in the Hitt Auditorium, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, starting at 2:00 p.m.
