DESCRIPTION:The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation in association with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will co-host the live webinar “EMTALA – Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act” on January 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon\, CT.\n\nDr. Sean Michael\, MD\, MBA\, FACEP\, the regional chief medical officer of CMS in Denver/Region 8\, will serve as keynote speaker.\n\nEMTALA was an act of the U.S. Congress passed in 1986 requiring hospital emergency departments that accept payments from Medicare to provide an appropriate medical screening examination (MSE) to anyone seeking treatment for a medical condition regardless of citizenship\, legal status or ability to pay.\n\nTopics will include:\n\n•	Providing patients with medical screening examinations (MSE);\n•	Stabilizing patients with emergency medical conditions;\n•	Transferring or accepting appropriate patients as needed;\n•	Proper training and education;\n•	Proper charting and verbiage;\n•	Appropriate actions with mental health patients.\n\nYou can register here.\n\nFor information\, please contact Patti Taylor at ptaylor@dfwhcfoundation.org.

DESCRIPTION:Are you concerned for loved ones or your community and have a passion to help others? If so\, learn how to become part of the solution! The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation’s Community Health Collaborative (CHC) will host the first “Recovery Workshop: ROCC Stars Unite” of 2024 on Sunday\, January 28 at 2801 Swiss Avenue in Dallas from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.\, CT. Hosted by NAMI North Texas\, this will be a complimentary event.\n\nWorking with UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW)\, the Association of Persons Affected by Addiction (APAA) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)\, the program creates awareness about mental health and addiction recovery.\n\nIn this workshop\, peer support specialists will teach you concepts through an engaging presentation and discussion. This workshop is intended for the entire community. The 86th Legislature appropriated $45 million in 2019 to continue the Community Mental Health Grant Program in 2020 and 2021.
