The Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council (DFWHC) announced today Clint Abernathy, president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance, was chosen as the 2016 Young Healthcare Executive of the Year. The award honors youthful professionals who display the impressive abilities of future North Texas healthcare leaders.

“Clint Abernathy is well known in the healthcare community for his excellent leadership and future potential within our community,” said W. Stephen Love, president/CEO of DFWHC. “He represents an enormously talented group of young healthcare professionals in North Texas. Our community is blessed to have such a promising generation of leaders so dedicated to the mission of serving others.”

Mr. Abernathy was named president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance in 2015. He joined Texas Health Alliance in 2012 and played a major role in efforts to open the hospital. He recruited and worked with physicians and oversaw ancillary services, including the imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, cardiopulmonary and rehabilitation departments. He also led the Texas Health Convenient Care Clinic and Outpatient Surgery Center and spearheaded improvements throughout the hospital.

In addition to Abernathy, nominees included Blake Allison, chief operating officer, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Quality Alliance; Eric B. Boon, chief operating officer, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Centennial; and Ray Tsai, MD, senior vice president and medical director, Children’s Health System of Texas.

The DFWHC Board of Trustees created the award in 2005 to recognize young women and men in healthcare. Nominees must be 40 years of age or younger and employed by a DFWHC-member hospital.

Abernathy will be presented the award during DFWHC’s 68th Annual Awards Luncheon, October 18 at the Arlington Convention Center. Tucker Carlson and Eugene Robinson will serve as keynote speakers while Margaret Jordan will receive the Distinguished Health Service Award. A special tribute to Joel Allison, the longtime Baylor Scott & White president/CEO who is stepping down after 17 years, will also be presented. The event is sponsored in part by Hall Render and CampbellWilson, LLP.
