History: A look back at Baylor University Hospital in 1957

12/11/2014

Here’s a 1957 photo from the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) archives. It was taken at Baylor University Hospital when its long-time president Boone Powell, Sr. (middle, pointing) was giving Ronald Reagan (second from right) a tour of the hospital, specifically Baylor’s ground-breaking supervoltage unit. At the time, before serving as governor of California and president of the U.S., Reagan was a spokesman for General Electric. Powell would serve as Chair of the Dallas Hospital Council in 1949. DFWHC’s Boone Powell, Sr. Award of Excellence presented to extraordinary healthcare executives in the metroplex (including most recently Joel Allison and Howard M. Chase) was named in his honor.
